Linksys Extender Setup
Setup & troubleshoot guide for Linksys RE6300, RE6500, RE7000, RE9000 and Velop range extenders.
Step-by-Step Setup

Plug in & wait
Place the extender within reach of your router. Wait until the LED stops blinking and turns solid orange.

Connect to Linksys Extender Setup
Join the open WiFi network 'Linksys Extender Setup-xxx' from your device.

Open the setup page
Visit http://extender.linksys.com or http://192.168.1.1 in your browser.

Run Spot Finder
Follow the on-screen wizard. Spot Finder tells you if the extender is too close or too far from the router.

Pick your network
Select your home SSID, enter the WiFi password, and continue.

Confirm extender SSID
Default appends _Ext. Apply settings — wait until the LED turns solid blue (good signal).
Common Issues & Fixes
extender.linksys.com not reachable
Confirm you're on 'Linksys Extender Setup'. Disable VPN. Try the IP 192.168.1.1 directly.
Solid orange LED stays on
Signal from the router is weak. Move the extender 5–10 feet closer and wait 30s.
Setup wizard freezes
Clear browser cache or switch browsers (Chrome → Edge). Restart the extender by unplugging for 10s.
WiFi name not appearing
Reboot the extender. If the SSID was renamed, scan with a different device.
Devices keep dropping
Channel conflict. Log in → Wireless → set 2.4 GHz channel to 1, 6 or 11.
Reset to factory
Press and hold the Reset button on the side for 10 seconds until the LED flashes.
